The majority of Berbers live in morocco and Algeria, but smaller populations can also be found in Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania, Mali, and Niger. Their total population is approximately 30 million. Berbers have traditionally spoken Berber languages. These languages are all closely related to each other. However, today less Berbers speak Tamazight than before. More people are ethnically Berber than they are linguistically. Similarly to a large amount of the Middle East, most Berbers are Sunni Muslim. In the 1960’s, a large Jewish community existed in morocco. However, due to emigration, few remain.
